TI-84 Plus CE Gas Laws: Ideal Gas Law & Boyle’s Law

Part 1 · Problems 1–8 · Approximately 22 minutes

Follow eight worked chemistry problems using GASLAWS, part of the Chemistry Solver Bundle for the TI-84 Plus CE and CE Python. See which calculator menu to choose, how to enter values with the correct units, and what each answer means.

Calculate pressure, volume, moles, and temperature with the ideal gas law, then use Boyle’s law to compare initial and final conditions.

Problems covered in this video

  1. Ideal gas law: find pressure in atm.
  2. Ideal gas law: find volume in liters.
  3. Ideal gas law: find moles using pressure in kPa.
  4. Ideal gas law: find temperature in kelvin, then convert to Celsius.
  5. Ideal gas law: find pressure in mmHg.
  6. Convert mL to liters and Celsius to kelvin before calculating moles.
  7. Boyle’s law: find pressure after compression.
  8. Boyle’s law: recover the initial volume.

This video covers Problems 1–8. The questions and answer PDFs below contain all 26 GASLAWS problems, including additional topics for further practice.

Start on Your Calculator

Use a TI-84 Plus CE or CE Python with the bundle programs installed. Start in the CHEM launcher:

CHEM → Thermo/Gases → Gas Laws

For Problems 1–6, choose Ideal Gas Law and the quantity you need to find. For Problems 7–8, choose Boyle’s Law and the required unknown.

For ideal-gas calculations, enter volume in liters and temperature in kelvin. Choose R to match the pressure units: 1 = atm, 2 = kPa, 3 = mmHg. The Boyle’s law routines do not ask you to choose R.
