How to Use TI Connect to Allow your Computer to communicate with your TI84:
First, you’ll need a TI 84 calculator, the usb to mini usb cable that came with your TI 84, and a desktop or laptop.
Next, you will go to Education.ti.com
On this page, click See the Difference button on the right hand side of the web page:
Here’s where you have options:
First, you have to match your calculator to the type of TI Connect. The more recent models of TI84 calculators are TI84 Plus CE. So, if you see a CE in the name of your calculator, click on the TI Connect CE version. If you don’t see a CE in the name, click TI Connect.
*PLEASE BE CAREFUL. Almost all the communications I receive about programs not working are traced back to a student downloading the wrong version of TI Connect. So, if you have trouble with your program(s) not working, please check to make sure you have the right version of TI Connect.
Once you’ve matched your calculator to either TI Connect or TI Connect CE, click on the Learn More for that option.
Now, you’ll have yet one more decision to make. If you have a PC, click the PC version. For that, select the .EXE file.
If you have a Mac, choose the Mac version and click on the .DMG file for Macs.
If you want to follow along with the video for the rest of the process, you can see what to do from here:
In the downloads, a dmg file will show up. Please open it.
Then you’ll see a popup window.
Left click and drag the TI connect CE icon over to the applications folder
If you see this:
Get excited, you now have TI Connect on your desktop
Now, to link your calculator and your computer, you’ll turn on your TI 84 calculator.
Then you’ll connect it via the aforementioned cable to your computer
You should see this icon of a TI-84 calculator (mine says TI-84 Plus CE - 7B89) in the upper right hand portion of your TI Connect (CE) window:
If so, rejoice!
You’re on your way to letting your calculator and computer communicate.
The exciting part is the programs you will now be able to download and then use in your class or the SAT. Yes, that’s a good thing!
Once you’ve successfully downloaded TI Connect or TI Connect CE and your computer recognizes your calculator, you can download programs. I’d recommend downloading the free QUAD program from the mcstutoring.com site.
Lastly, once you see that you can download the QUAD program onto your calculator, you can proceed to buy any of the programs that will help you from mcstutoring.com here.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any difficulties downloading or using programs, here are the top 3 problems:
1. You're using the wrong version of TI Connect. If it's a model that has CE on the top of it, use TI Connect CE. Otherwise, use regular TI Connect.
2. You don't have enough RAM to download or run the program. The larger programs, such as SAT Math, Chemistry Solver, or Physics Solver, use huge amounts of memory. You can check your memory to see if you have enough space to download and run the program.
3. You encounter an error message in the program itself. That's OK! Just select the QUIT option or press the 2nd key and then the mode key. Doing either of these will bring you back to your home screen.
