Start Here for Online Math Tutoring

Martin McSweeney

You can try out a free 30-minute session of mcstutoring via a tech check. It’s an onboarding session during which we check your technology. That part usually takes only about 5-10 minutes. During the remaining time, you can focus on math tutoring. That way, you can see if mcstutoring is a good match for you or your student.

If you’re interested in a tech onboarding session, please fill out the contact form HERE. Please keep in mind this is the ONLY session I schedule for you. All other sessions are set HERE. That way, payments/scheduling/rescheduling is all taken care of through the Acuity scheduling app online.

What Happens During Your FREE Onboarding

During the tech-check or first session, we’ll first work on communication. FaceTime works best. Even if you don’t own an iPhone, an iPad, or Mac laptop/desktop would work.

Lacking an Apple device, Google Meet works fine.

As for actually doing the math, we’ll use a Ziteboard. This is an online, interactive whiteboard. Think Google Docs, but you can draw or input text. The drawing helps you to write steps for your math questions. Oh, and it’s easy to post pics or PDFs of math questions or review packets. And, you’ll be able to access your board for longer than a year, using any device.

After Your Onboarding or First Session

if you’re satisfied with your tech check / first session, and want to continue, there are a couple of ways to do that. One is by paying session to session HERE. The other, more economical way, is to buy a package of hours HERE. The beauty of a package is that you can schedule the sessions as you want. When you by a package, you’ll receive an alpha-numeric code. Think Amazon gift card. You’ll use this code to pay for your sessions as you schedule them.

There is flexibility in scheduling. If you want Thursday at 4 pm one week and then skip a week until you need it Wednesday at 2:30 pm, that’s fine. You’re not locked in to a specific time every week. However, if you do desire a more regular session time, you can set it for recurring sessions on the scheduler.

Sessions themselves can be 30,60, or 90 minutes long. An hour is the most common length. Usually, younger students (middle schoolers) will schedule 30-minute sessions. 90 minutes is typically only chosen by older students (high school upperclassmen or college students) or students who have worked with me for quite some time.

Keep the Confirmation Email for Your Session

When you schedule a session, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the date and time of the appointment. Be sure to keep this email. There are buttons on it that allow you to cancel/reschedule. It’s quite easy. You’ll just need to cancel or reschedule at least 5 hours before the beginning of the session time to avoid a charge.

Packages can last a long time and can be shared

Just so you know: any package you buy is good for 3 years. Many students buy a package and do not use it up for over a calendar year. Oh, and packages can be split between siblings and other relatives. This happens a lot. Lastly, as of 2024, both SAT prep and math tutoring are the same rates. So, now, they’re all interchangeable.

Refunds

Should you need a refund of an unused portion of a package you buy, just ask. If it’s been less than 180 days of the original purchase date, I can refund you directly via PayPal. If it’s been longer, let me know and I can mail you a check within 5-7 days of your refund request.

Discounts

Usually, there are monthly discounts. You can see the News page on the site or check the YT channel. The codes on those vary between 5% and 30%, but are usually somewhere between 10% and 20%. Students who’ve worked with me for a year also get a special discount. They can use that for as many times as they want.

There is a first-time discount of 10% available for any package of hours for a new student. The code is FIRST10. It’s a single-use discount code, so be sure to have a tech check or first session to make sure mcstutoring.com is a good fit for you.
